Happy Birthday Betty White

You know I like to use this space to pay tribute to people whom I admire, and this includes the late, great Betty White, born on January 17, 1922.

From her roots in Oak Park, IL, to becoming one of television’s most beloved entertainers, Betty White demonstrated the power of seizing opportunities and turning them into enduring success.

Two of her best-known roles—Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Elka Ostrovsky on Hot in Cleveland—were actually meant to be only one-time appearances. Thank you and good luck on your next role.

Yet Betty’s unmatched talent and charm transformed those opportunities into her long-lasting, unforgettable characters.

Her decision not to reprise her Sue Ann Nivens role (from The Mary Tyler Moore Show) on Golden Girls showed her creative integrity and desire to explore new opportunities rather than retread old paths. As a result, we were gifted with Rose Nylund, a sweet and hilariously naive character that added another layer to Betty’s legacy.

Betty White taught us all to embrace reinvention, cherish creativity, and never stop pursuing what brings joy to ourselves and others.
