Countdown to 1000: My Mentoring Intervention

This week, I’m counting down to my 1000th consecutive (weekday) post—here and on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Today, I want to share the story behind the name Mentorvention—my blog, my website, and even my LLC. It means mentoring intervention.

Why that name?
Because of what happened early in my academic career.
I stumbled through my first job, unsure of myself and my path. Then came a one-year gig—a stopgap, or so I thought. Or maybe a last chance.

But that’s where everything changed. Two incredible mentors, Geoff and Tim, saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. They stepped in. They gave me the guidance and belief I desperately needed. That intervention set me on a path to my third job—my current role, a wonderful opportunity that I’ve been fortunate to hold for nearly 20 years.

It was transformative. And it’s why I’m so passionate about helping others find the mentorship they need to grow.

So here’s my question for you:

Do you see someone who could use a mentoring intervention? A nudge, a conversation… a chance? Start that conversation. You never know where it might lead.

And if you need that kind of support, let me know. It’s the least I can do to keep things moving forward.

See you tomorrow for Mentorvention #1000.

Because if I’ve learned anything through this journey, it’s this: We all have something worth teaching. And I know you do too.
