Countdown to 1000: A Daily Education
This week I’ve been building up to my 1000th consecutive (weekday) post, here and on LinkedIn and Facebook.
It has been a learning experience.
One key factor, a lesson that applies to marketing and mentoring is that even if late 1980s cinematic wisdom tells you “if you build it, they will come,” that is just not true.
Yes, you do have to build it. Whatever “it” is, whatever you can offer to others.
Then you have to tell whoever “they” are that you have something to offer.
Whether it’s a service, a talent, even your gift… and even a blog like mine… you have to do some marketing communication.
Confession: I don’t get many comments on my blogs. Does it mean that my posts are already “self-contained and fairly explanatory,” to quote another favorite movie from the late 1980s? Or is it that I’m not provocative enough, not controversial? Or is it because I seem to be stuck in the late 1980s?
Well even if you just read and enjoy, I am grateful. Thanks for being there for me, and I hope to continue to be there for you.
And if you want to take a guess which movies I’m referring to, I promise reply to you!
See you tomorrow!
P.S. Watch this space for my 1000th Mentorvention post this Friday – a milestone of simply deciding that I have something worth teaching. And I know you do too.
