BRIGHT Goal Setting Step 5: HOW

You want to have a voice in creating your own to-do list.

You can and should set your own goals and play a proactive role in setting goals with others.

You know the SMART model of goal setting?

The SMART model components are missing important ingredients and besides, they’re in the wrong order.

I’ve got a better idea.

Our BRIGHT new model includes a couple of things that really need to be added.

We’ve been spelling out the model by using the word BRIGHT to describe out goal setting: Big, Relevant, Items, Guardrails, and now, the How of the whole situation.

H is for How.

How will you measure your results?

You need a way to know if you are making progress and ultimately, achieving your goals.

You want to be able to measure your success.

At the beginning and in the midst of your project, can you answer the question:

“How are you doing? How are things coming along?

If somebody asks you these questions, you should be able to tell them, clearly, what you expect the measurable results to be.

This shows you have an idea of what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.

What’s next for creating your BRIGHT goals? We’ll take a timely detour tomorrow and then finish up on Thursday with the very important T for Time.

Tomorrow we finish up with the very important T for Time.

In the meantime, do you want to join me in proving that the BRIGHT model will work?

What’s your BRIGHT big goal?

See you tomorrow!
