Happy Birthday Kenny Holtzman
Today let us honor the legacy of the late, great Kenny Holtzman, just before what would have been his birthday (November 3).
Kenny passed away earlier this year. While he is no longer with us, his impact on the game and his spirit endure. A star pitcher at the University of Illinois, Holtzman went on to join the Chicago Cubs, only to be traded to the Oakland A’s, where he enjoyed his most successful years.
Kenny wasn’t just an outstanding athlete; he was a trailblazer. He pitched with dedication and grit, balancing his baseball career with his service to our country and his devotion to his faith—a true inspiration on and off the field.
For me, he was more than just a player; he was my first celebrity encounter. I still remember waiting in line at Bargain Town (later known as Toys R Us) with my dad to get his autograph after his second no-hitter for the Cubs. Moments like those are priceless and stay with you for a lifetime.
Thank you, Kenny, for being an incredible role model and a reminder of what it means to be both a champion and a good person.
