I Told You So Sucks (part 1)
Sure, saying “I told you so” might feel good for a moment. It might even be something you look forward to doing. That means you’re waiting for something to fail. Maybe something important.
And that’s what “I told you so” means.
- That the outcome is not what was desired
- Instead of the desired outcome, your only satisfaction was from taking a swipe at someone else
- And, importantly, maybe you were right, but you didn’t succeed in the important work of convincing other important parties
Did you lose an argument? How hard did you try? Did you lose just so you could say “I told you so?”
Did you let the others walk over you?
Did you really know your ideas were better back then? Or is this just hindsight?
Look, instead of saying “I told you so” after the fact, try harder to persuade others of your better idea first.
