I Am… I Said

Neil Diamond is one of the most popular and best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 130 million records worldwide. He has also won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He’s enjoyed a career resurgence of late, with the fairly recent rise in popularity of his 1969 song “Sweet Caroline” (BOMP! BOMP! BOMP! Good times never seemed so good!).

For today, I want to focus on another one of his songs, called “I Am… I Said.” If you know of this 1971 hit, you might laugh at the phrase “And no one heard at all, not even the chair.”

Chairs, notoriously, are not good listeners.

“I Am… I Said” is a beautiful, sad song. Check out the lyrics when you have a moment.

Why bring this up?

We spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to present our ideas. On social media, for example, it seems like people are walking on eggshells, throwing out qualifier after qualifier to make sure they don’t upset whomever they’re replying to or whoever made the original post.

If you spend too much time defending what you are about to say, even before you say it,  is it worth saying?

What do you think?

See you tomorrow!
